History Comes Alive in Hyde Park
From buildings to historical events, Hyde Park is full of important and rich history to the area.
Hyde Park House
Built on the shore of Lake Michigan, this building served as the crown jewel of Hyde Park for over two decades. Prominent individuals such as Mary Todd Lincoln have either lived in or visited the house. Unfortunately, the original structure burned down in 1879, however the Sisson Hotel now stands proudly on the site and acts as a condominium.
In 1893, the World’s Columbian Exposition or World’s Fair was hosted in Hyde Park. As the last remaining building from that fair, the Museum of Science and Industry still stands. For the most part, the building still appears similar to its original form in 1893. Interestingly enough, even a few of the light posts surrounding the property are originally from the fair too.
